One of the most difficult things a sporting club has to deal with is the tragic passing of a young Club member.
Justin "Justy" had been a playing member of the Burnside Lacrosse Club since he commenced as a junior player just
over 10 years ago. His exceptional ability as a player meant he commenced playing seniors in 2007 as a 14 year old,
and played his first League game for the Burnside Bears in 2009 as a 16 year old. He played 105 senior games for the
Club, with 80 of those at League level as the always courageous goalkeeper.
A quiet unassuming guy, he displayed courage and determination beyond his years - and such was his courage he played
the recent 2015 League finals series with at least one broken upper rib.
Despite reaching a high playing level at such a young age, Justy remained a very down to earth type of guy - who
could chat to anyone in a polite way. In recent times he also ran the bar at the Club in his usual affable and
Justy will be sorely missed. In the coming days, weeks or maybe months the Club will "cry as one" - but I am very
confident everyone at the Club will unite (as Justy definitely would want) and continue to do its very best on and
off the field in memory of Justin's legacy, and continue the foundation he has helped lay for the Club to be an
ongoing great one.
We are establishing a junior scholarship program to honour the memory of Justin. The club is still developing the
scholarship details, but will include 1-on-1 mentoring, strength and condition training and support with playing
fees and uniforms.
